Federal Act on the Surveillance of Post and Telecommunications

What is it about?

The new Federal Act on the Surveillance of Postal and Telecommunications traffic (SPTA) and its ordinances have been in force since 1st March 2018. Switzerland now has a modern, clear legal basis for the analysis of postal and telecommunications traffic to investigate serious criminal offences. In particular, the new law ensures that criminals cannot evade the investigations of the law enforcement authorities simply by communicating in encrypted form over the internet.
